Mild IVF | Mild Stimulation IVF

Mild Stimulation IVF, also known as Mild IVF is a form of IVF treatment that uses lower doses of drugs to achieve a mild response. It is kinder and safer for the body reducing the duration of medication to just 5-9 days – this in turn reduces the risks and side effects associated with conventional IVF.

Mild IVF is perfect for women wishing to minimise medication, reduce the risk of Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome (OHSS) and reduce the negative impact on their lives.

What is Mild IVF?

Mild IVF – like Natural IVF – is carried out within a woman’s natural menstrual cycle. Conventional IVF focuses on collecting a large number of eggs where as Mild IVF focuses on collecting fewer, better quality eggs.

By using gentler stimulation and working with the body’s natural cycle, rather than against it, we aim to collect eggs of much higher quality. The treatment time for Mild IVF is just two weeks and involves lower doses of drugs, making it a more suitable option for many women.

Who is suitable for Mild IVF?

Every woman who has normal/high egg reserve is suitable for this type of treatment. Other situations include those with no female infertility and only male factor infertility, or those with Polycystic Ovaries (PCO)/Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS).

Those that want to take a minimal amount of medication will also benefit, as do those that want to avoid the risk of OHSS (Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome). Many women choose Mild IVF because they want treatment that is fitted around them and has a reduced impact on their lives.

The Mild IVF process

Initial scan and consultation
Initial Consultation & Scan

The first step is for you to come in for an Initial Consultation & scan where one of our IVF Consultants will assess you and devise a personalised treatment plan which will give you the best chance of success.

Treatment Consultation

2 weeks before the start of your period you will come in to meet with a fertility nurse who will talk you through your treatment plan and go through the consent forms with you.

Scans & Blood tests

You will have 2 or 3 monitoring scans usually spaced days apart; each takes 20 minutes. The doctor may perform blood tests at these appointments.

Egg collection

This procedure is performed in the theatre under sedation and takes around 45 minutes.

Embryo Transfer

The embryo transfer is a quick and easy procedure which does not need sedation and feels similar to a smear test

Pregnancy test

We will invite you back to the clinic for a pregnancy blood test and give you the test results by the end of the day.
