Waiting lists for IVF treatment

Waiting lists for IVF treatment

Firstly, let’s discuss why most clinics DO have waiting lists:

Six out of ten IVF cycles, in the UK, are funded privately, with NHS waiting times being the main reason why couples opt for private IVF treatment.

Depending on the area you live in, couples eligible for NHS funding can wait between a few months and up to three years to start fertility treatment.

The main reason for long waiting times are the limited resources available to the NHS. In addition to this, all NHS patients must follow a specific pathway for treatment. There are many different steps to complete, all separately, before being referred to an assisted conception unit where treatment can begin; all this delays the process.

When it comes to the private sector, waiting lists are mainly created to manage workloads and staff resources.

Most private IVF clinics offer conventional IVF, which involves down regulation. Down regulation, in IVF treatment, is the process of temporarily stopping the ovaries’ function in order to control ovulation and egg maturation. With the use of down regulation and stimulation drugs, instead of releasing one or two naturally selected eggs, the ovaries go into overdrive and release more eggs; many of which would not otherwise ‘make the cut’ if being selected by the body.

So, why don’t CREATE Fertility have waiting lists?

The simple answer is that we don’t need them.

Our Natural and Mild approach to IVF treatment means that we can work with your natural cycle and fit treatment around you, rather than changing the cycle to fit around the clinic’s schedule.

Whether you are coming to CREATE for private or NHS funded treatment, we are usually able to find an initial appointment within a week of enquiring. We will work within you natural cycle and therefore you can start treatment whenever you are ready; most women can start as soon as their next cycle.

Furthermore, our initial appointments include a comprehensive internal scan of the female partner and a detailed consultation with one of our fertility doctors where a personalise treatment plan is devised. This allows for patients to be able to start treatment right away if they chose to, eliminating any further delays.
